Dimsum Break Discontinued Menu Items

How did we check this?
We compared two kinds of sources. On the old side: a detailed review of the SM North Annex branch that names dishes and prices, and a Cebu food blog that praises specific items like Hakaw, Stuffed Taro, and Shrimp Shao Mai. On the current side: recent third-party menu listings that cover the steamed, fried, rice pot, noodle, shaopao, dessert, and drink ranges. An item counts for this article only if it shows up in the older coverage and does not show up in the current listings. Nothing here is a guess, but none of it is confirmed by the brand either, and that caveat applies to the whole article.

Which items look discontinued?
Five items fit the pattern, each with a different strength of evidence. Read the evidence column before you mourn anything, since some of these may just be branch differences.

| Item | Old evidence | Current status | Evidence strength |
|---|---|---|---|
| Yang Chow Fried Rice (standalone) | Named in the SM North review and offered as a rice choice inside Oriental Value Meal 2 | Not listed as a standalone rice pot in current listings | Medium, still appears inside a combo description |
| Mango Custard | Named dessert in the SM North review | Not in current dessert listings, which show Mango Fruit Cream instead | Medium, may have been renamed, unconfirmed |
| Quail’s Egg Shaomai | Called a crowd favorite in old reviews, listed in older menus | Missing from the newest third-party steamed list | Thin, branch listings differ and it may survive at some branches |
| Hakaw (shrimp dumpling) | Praised by name in a Cebu food blog as among the best tried | No Hakaw line item in current listings, which focus on Shaomai variants | Thin, may be covered under a different dumpling name |
| Stuffed Taro / Stuffed Tofu | Stuffed Taro named in a Cebu blog, Stuffed Tofu in an older best-seller list | Neither appears in the newest third-party listings | Thin, naming differs between sources |
Yang Chow Fried Rice is the most interesting case. It has not vanished completely, since the brand’s own Value Meal 2 announcement still offers Yang Chow Fried Rice as a rice choice, but it no longer appears as a standalone rice pot alongside Steamed Fried Rice, Spicy Steamed Fried Rice, Crispy Fish Rice, Steamed Chicken Rice, and Steamed Pai Kuat Rice. If you want it, ask whether your branch still serves it solo.
Mango Custard needs the same caution. Current dessert listings include Mango Fruit Cream, Leche Flan, Buko Pandan, Buchi, Ube Xie Ping, and Choco Bavarian Creme. Mango Fruit Cream may be the same idea under a new name, or it may be a different dessert entirely. We are not calling it a rename, because no source says that.
What is still around?
Most of the old favorites survived, which is good news if you are hunting for a taste of the old menu. Shaomai in its plain, mushroom, bacon, and spicy forms, Empress Roll, Mandunggo, Chicken Feet, Steamed Chicken, Spring Rolls, Fried Wanton, Crab Pincers, and the famous Steamed Fried Rice all still appear in current listings. Leche Flan and Buko Pandan, both named in the old SM North review, also still appear, so the dessert case is mixed rather than a clean wipeout.

What changed instead?
The bigger change is price, not disappearance. The old SM North review priced steamed and fried dimsum at ₱65 per order and rice pots at ₱68, with desserts at ₱55. Current third-party listings put steamed items roughly between ₱109 and ₱149 and rice pots between ₱122 and ₱157, with desserts over ₱100. Those ranges come from different listings and dates, so treat them as a direction of travel, not an exact branch price, but the jump is real and it explains why longtime guests feel the menu has changed even though most dishes are still there.
Closest replacements to try
If your old favorite is gone at your branch, these are the nearest current options, not exact copies:

- Miss Yang Chow Fried Rice? Order Steamed Fried Rice, or ask about Value Meal 2’s rice choice.
- Miss Mango Custard? Try Mango Fruit Cream, and ask staff if it replaced the older dessert.
- Miss Quail’s Egg Shaomai? Plain Shaomai or Mushroom Shaomai is the nearest steamed option.
- Miss Hakaw? Ask the counter what shrimp dumpling they serve today, since names vary.
- Miss Stuffed Taro? Empress Roll and Vegetable Dumplings are the nearest current picks.
Discontinued items FAQs
Has Dimsum Break published a discontinued list?
No. This article is built by comparing older reviews and menus with current third-party listings, so every item here is “missing from current listings,” not brand-confirmed as removed.

Is Yang Chow Fried Rice really gone?
Not entirely. It is missing as a standalone rice pot in current listings, but the brand’s Value Meal 2 announcement still offers it as a rice choice, so ask your branch.
Can I still get an old item at some branches?
Possibly. Branch menus differ, so an item missing from a listing may still appear at a specific branch. Ask the counter before assuming it is gone everywhere.
